Learn to Play Hockey Program
The learn-to-play hockey program is geared towards the beginning player with an emphasis on skill development. Players are divided into groups and instructed by experienced, USA Hockey certified coaches. Children who participate in the program are given priority registration status for PHA Hockey teams the following fall, if age eligible.

FALL/WINTER 2017-18 Learn to Play Hockey Instructional Program

This is a Learn to Play (intro to hockey) program; recommended ages 4 to 9.  Program intended for players born in 2008-2013.

Program Format:
  • Program runs September 10, 2017 through March 18, 2018.
  • On-ice skill development Sundays 2:30pm-3:20pm.  No sessions 11/26, 12/24, 12/31 or 2/4.  Additional Wednesday evening skates will be added 1/10 through 3/14 for cross-ice games.
  • All sessions held at the Plymouth Cultural Center (525 Farmer, Plymouth).

Registration Options:
  • Fall Only (#350101-01) is $175 and includes 14 skates (Sept 10 - Dec 17).
  • Winter Only (#350102-01) is $250 and includes 20 skates (Jan 7 - Mar 18).
  • Fall & Winter (#350100-01) is $390 and includes all 34 skates (Sept 10 - Mar 18).  Must register for the entire season initially in order to qualify for the reduced rate.
  • Fees for the selected program are due at the time of registration and are not refundable.

USA HOCKEY REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for the 2017-18 playing season.  USA Hockey is the governing body of youth hockey.  Registration is free to children 6 & Under.  There is a $45 fee for children 7 & Older that is in addition to the program fee.  Register at by the first skate and forward the confirmation email to

FULL EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED and includes athletic supporter with cup (boys) or pelvis protector (girls), shin guards, hockey socks, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jersey, unexpired hockey helmet with full face guard, neck guard, gloves, skates and ice hockey stick.   A limited number of gear sets are available to borrow from the Recreation Department for use during the session and can be reserved on-line when registering.  There is a $50 deposit required to use gear.  The fee is refunded when the gear is returned in good condition.

Walk-In Registration will be taken at the City of Plymouth Recreation Department located in the Plymouth Cultural Center, 525 Farmer, Plymouth, MI 48170.
