Learn to Play Hockey Program
The learn-to-play hockey program is geared towards the beginning player with an emphasis on skill development. Players are divided into groups and instructed by experienced, USA Hockey certified coaches. Children who participate in the program are given priority registration status for PHA Hockey teams the following fall, if age eligible.

The program offers two sessions: Fall/Winter (September through March) and Spring.  Our next session will be Fall/Winter 2016-17.

Fall/Winter 2016 Learn to Play Hockey Instructional Program

This is a Learn to Play (intro to hockey) program; recommended ages 4 to 9.  Program intended for players born in 2007-2012.

Program Director: Darrin Silvester.

Open Registration: May 5 - September 6, 2016

Program Fee: $400
(Please Note: a minimum of $200 is due at the time of registration.  Any remaining balance will be due by October 15, 2016.)

Program Format:
  • Program runs September 18, 2016 through March 19, 2017.
  • On-ice skill development Sundays 2:30pm-3:20pm.  No sessions 11/27, 12/25 or 1/1.
  • Additional Wednesday evening skates will be added 1/11 through 3/15 for cross-ice games.
  • All sessions held at the Plymouth Cultural Center (525 Farmer, Plymouth).
  • Every player receives a free jersey.
  • Free youth hockey stick to each player during the Stick Day Event on 9/18.

FULL EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED and includes athletic supporter with cup (boys) or pelvis protector (girls), shin guards, hockey socks, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jersey, unexpired hockey helmet with full face guard, neck guard, gloves, skates and ice hockey stick.  

A limited number of gear sets are available to borrow from the Recreation Department for use during the session and can be reserved on-line when registering.  There is a $50 deposit required to use gear.  The fee is refunded when the gear is returned in good condition.

Registration will be taken at the City of Plymouth Recreation Department located in the Plymouth Cultural Center, 525 Farmer, Plymouth, MI 48170.
